Kids desire the Spirit of God to move in their lives!
Sunday evening's Shekinah Kids was powerful! Before the kids went downstairs to meet, they were gathered in the back for the worship part of the regular service. Some sang, others fidgeted, popped their gum (before they were told to spit it out) and of course whispered various things to each other followed by snickers and laughter. They were encouraged to worship God in a different way than the usual movements and sign language that most of them were accustomed to. Then the Spirit of God began to move in the sanctuary, right as we were leaving to take the children downstairs.
The Shekinah Kids group has been meeting for some time now. In the past couple years the focus has transitioned to a type of leadership class where the kids learn lessons, how to use concordances, write prayers and various related things. However, God wanted to move differently this night, and we were willing.
The moment we stepped foot into the meeting area we brought the focus of the children back to the worship that they just left up in the sanctuary. We talked about the various methods of worship and then we used those methods collectively. As the children got in tune with the Spirit of God the atmosphere became heavy with prayers and crying out to God for the needs that where shared in the group. Tears dripped down faces, children bowed on the floor to God, and they laid hands on each other, interceding for their needs. No one asked for snack. No one asked when we were going to be done. No one complained. No one poked, played, fidgeted, or became distracted - they were dead set focused on God.
We asked several of the children what they felt like God had for their lives and their future. One mentioned they felt they would be a children's ministry worker, one a praise team singer/leader, and another a missionary. These were their answers, not prodded or suggested by anyone except the Lord.
We asked them, "If you could ask God just one question, what would you ask?" There were various answers and then one that struck at the heart of everyone there - "God, do you really love me?"
We cried. We prayed. We worshiped. We touched God and He touched us.
Children are hungry for the move of God. Get behind them. Support them. Train them. Mentor them. If you don't, the world will, but it won't be the type that will save their soul, give them experience in prayer or provide them hope. They are NOT too young. If you question if they are, then ask yourself this question, "At what age are they exposed to sin, destruction, problems, temptation and evil?" Is it ever too early?
Get your children involved in prayer; it will change their life and yours.
